Differences Between Zhonglian F27 and Ukrainian AK1-3, and Whether Zhonglian F27 Has Obtained Authorization for AK1-3

In the light helicopter market, the Zhonglian F27 from Changzhou Zhonglian Aviation Technology Co., Ltd. of China is often compared with the AK1-3 from Ukraine. Although both belong to the category of light helicopters, they differ significantly in terms of technological research and development, core configurations, and pricing strategies, with no authorization relationship between them. The following is a multi-dimensional analysis of the differences between the two and a clarification of the independence of the Zhonglian F27.

Differences Between Zhonglian F27 and Ukrainian AK1-3

I. Core Technology and R&D Independence: No Authorization, Full Autonomy

The most fundamental difference between the Zhonglian F27 and the Ukrainian AK1-3 lies in the independence of technical sources. Zhonglian Aviation clearly states: "We have no affiliation with the manufacturer of the Ukrainian AK1-3. Our R&D is independent, driven by our own technical team and an innovative approach."

Specifically, 80% of the core components of the Zhonglian F27 are independently designed, including key components such as the engine, rotor, cylinders, hydraulic system, fuel system, landing gear, control stick, and battery. Among them, the most representative is the Flyben series engine independently developed by Zhonglian, which includes multiple options such as four-cylinder, six-cylinder, and eight-cylinder, and can be flexibly configured according to customer needs. This is in sharp contrast to the AK1-3, which relies on a single technical system.

Although there are some similarities in appearance between the two, the overall design, power system layout, and performance parameters of the Zhonglian F27 are based on the independent research and development of Zhonglian Aviation, with no technical reference to or authorized production of the AK1-3. Zhonglian Aviation emphasizes: "We produce the Zhonglian F27, not the AK1-3 model, and we don’t need authorization to produce Ukraine’s AK1-3."

II. Power Configuration and Performance Differences: A Cost-Effective Upgrade Option

The power system is a core difference between the two helicopters, directly affecting performance and cost.

The Ukrainian AK1-3 is mainly equipped with a four-cylinder engine, while the Zhonglian F27 offers two engine options: one is the Subaru four-cylinder engine, and the other is the independently developed Flyben series engine (including four-cylinder, six-cylinder, and eight-cylinder options). This multiple configuration choice makes the F27 more flexible in performance, able to meet the needs of different scenarios—for example, six-cylinder and eight-cylinder engines can provide stronger power, suitable for heavy-load and long-endurance tasks, while the four-cylinder engine focuses on economy.

In terms of the balance between price and performance, the Zhonglian F27 shows significant advantages:

· When both are configured with four-cylinder engines, the price of the Zhonglian F27 is tens of thousands of US dollars lower than that of the AK1-3;

· More competitively, the cost of the F27’s six-cylinder engine is roughly on par with the AK1-3’s four-cylinder engine. This means that customers can obtain the six-cylinder configuration of the Zhonglian F27 with the budget for purchasing the four-cylinder model of the AK1-3, improving power performance while achieving higher cost-effectiveness.

This pricing strategy is not simply cost suppression, but based on China’s advantages as "the world’s largest industrial nation"—lower labor and raw material costs, combined with technical cost control brought by independent research and development, enable the Zhonglian F27 to provide customers with "upgraded configurations at the same budget" while ensuring quality.

III. Production and Supply Chain: A Completely Independent System

The differences between the Zhonglian F27 and the AK1-3 also lie in the production system and supply chain.

Zhonglian Aviation’s production is completely based on its own supply chain. From core components (such as the Flyben engine) to assembly processes, all are independently controlled by the company, ensuring the independence and stability of the production process. This vertical integration capability not only reduces reliance on external suppliers but also allows for quick response to market demands, flexibly adjusting production capacity and configurations.

In contrast, the production of the AK1-3 relies on its local supply chain system, which is greatly affected by regional and policy factors. The Zhonglian F27, relying on China’s complete industrial supporting capabilities, has more advantages in parts procurement, production efficiency, and quality control, which is also an important support for its ability to achieve "low cost and high performance."

IV. Conclusion: Independent Innovation Creates Differentiated Value

In summary, the Zhonglian F27 and the Ukrainian AK1-3 are two completely independent light helicopters, with core differences reflected in:

1. Technical independence: The F27 has no authorization from the AK1-3, and 80% of its core components are independently developed;

2. Power and cost-effectiveness: The F27 offers more engine options, enabling stronger performance at the same budget, with a lower price for the four-cylinder model;

3. Production system: Relying on China’s manufacturing advantages, the F27 has more competitiveness in supply chain stability and cost control.

Differences Between Zhonglian F27 and Ukrainian AK1-3

For customers, choosing the Zhonglian F27 not only means obtaining a cost-effective light helicopter but also enjoying customized services and long-term guarantees brought by independent technology. With independent innovation as the core, Zhonglian Aviation has established a differentiated value benchmark in the global light helicopter market through technological breakthroughs and cost optimization, demonstrating the competitiveness of "Made in China" in the aviation field.

We currently offer two engine options. One is the Subaru four-cylinder engine. The other is our factory's independently developed Flyben engine, which has multiple choices: four-cylinder, six-cylinder, and eight-cylinder. Moreover, each of the four-cylinder, six-cylinder, and eight-cylinder versions further includes turbocharged and non-turbocharged options, providing customers with diverse configurations to meet different needs.
